  • The aim of EviDog is to make evidence available to working dog handlers, instructors, administrators and decision makers. We use the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence Guidelines when assessing studies.

EviDog functions as an open-access platform that systematically compiles and presents scientific research on the effectiveness of methods and practices related to working dogs. Its goal is to enhance access to reliable, high-quality evidence that can inform decisions across operational, training, and policy contexts.

By curating and summarising this evidence, EviDog supports a more rigorous, transparent, and cumulative understanding of what works — and what remains uncertain — in the field of working dogs.

  • The aim is to fill EviDog with reliable evidence syntheses based on systematic maps and reviews of scientific evidence. These reviews are externally funded and we are currently seeking funding to undertake such reviews.

  • As EviDog develops, the portal will be populated with evidence derived from systematic maps and reviews conducted in accordance with the guidelines of the Collaboration for Environmental Evidence (CEE).

Currently, the evidence included in EviDog relates to topics within working dog research, such as training methods, selection procedures, and operational performance. The initial collection of studies is based on peer-reviewed literature identified through structured database searches. Only peer-reviewed papers written in English, where the interventions are compared to a control setting will be included.

As the portal develops, the aim is to fill every section of the site with evidence based on systematic mapping and literature review.

  • EviDog is a collaborative effort that grows through the contributions of researchers, practitioners, and organizations within the working dog community. By sharing relevant studies, you help strengthen the evidence base and support the development of evidence-informed practices.

If you or someone you know has published research containing empirical evidence on the effects of training methods, selection procedures, or operational performance, we warmly invite you to submit it to EviDog. Each submission helps build a shared, continually expanding resource for all who work with or study working dogs.

Before submitting a paper, please ensure it meets the inclusion criteria outlined here.
